This is our most popular tour, ideal for a day trip from Paris, taking the fast TGV train to meet us at St. Pierre des Corps station (near Tours). Other clients may be staying in the region and we would collect you at your hotel.
Our first stop is at the chateau de Chenonceau, where you will be treated to a guided tour of this wonderful renaissance palace and its gardens on the banks of the river Cher. The chateau itself contains an unequalled collection of renaissance art and is still privately owned.
AOC Touraine-Chenonceau wines can be tasted nearby and a visit to a family wine-maker is always popular. Red wine, white wine, rosé and sparkling wines can all be tasted after a tour around their ancient cellars. The possibility of directly comparing Touraine with Touraine-Chenonceau Sauvignon blanc is a tasting opportunity not to be missed.
Lunch is enjoyed amongst the locals at a restaurant in Montrichard, in the square beneath the ruins of the medieval castle and is followed by a further tasting of a wide range of Loire wines, with a chance to see sparkling wine aging in limestone caves.
Finally, we drive through the countryside and forests over to the Loire near Amboise, where we visit the winery, vineyards and tasting room of a wine-making family with roots going back 500 years. The drive back gives us a wonderful view of the royal castle at Amboise, where Leonardo da Vinci was buried 500 years ago.
There will be plenty of chances to buy the wine you taste and they are such good value you will want to send some home to enjoy with friends. We can help with the shipping. This tour is a fascinating introduction to the Touraine region of the Loire Valley, enjoyed by many clients before you.
