Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most widely planted wine grapes in the world and because of this it has a wide range of styles and flavours. A native of the south-west of France, it has made a home for itself in the Loire Valley, particular along the banks of the river Cher, where arguably some of the worlds finest Sauvignon Blanc wines are produced.
A native of the south-west of France, it has made a home for itself in the Loire Valley, particular along the banks of the river Cher, where arguably some of the world’s finest Sauvignon Blanc wines are produced. Last years’ World Sauvignon Blanc Competition produced over 100 medal winners for the Loire Valley, 1/3rd of all those awarded.
During a fascinating day out, we will introduce you to a selection of the Sauvignon Blanc wines produced in the region. Characteristically dry and lively, flavours range from grassy, through citrus to exotic fruit, depending on ripeness, location and wine-making technique. There will be plenty of time for tasting and buying wine but also time to enjoy the Touraine countryside, as we drive through searching for the best vineyards.
Please note: while we cannot take you to Sancerre on this trip, you will have the chance to sample Sancerre wine.
